> This Markdown file is a plain-text twin of the article at the URL above. Same content, no page furniture. It is public, not bot-only.

Confirmed Stated in the product's own documentation, plugin listing or repository, checked on 20 October 2026.

Observed I ran or tested it myself. That applies only to my own extension; I did not run hands-on tests of the other five for this article.

Not documented I could not find it in the product's own docs. That does not mean the feature is missing, only that I could not confirm it.

Opinion My judgement as someone who publishes to WordPress from Claude every week. Yours may differ.

I made [WP Publisher for Claude](https://thejayant.in/wp-publisher), the first option on this list. It is free, there is no paid tier, and nobody paid to be included or excluded here. I have tried to describe every product, mine included, only from what its own documentation says, and to show where the others do more than mine. If you spot a mistake, [tell me](https://thejayant.in/#contact) and I will correct it.

- **There is no single best WordPress publisher for Claude.** The right one depends on where your site is hosted and how much of it you want Claude to control. Opinion
- **Site on WordPress.com:** use the official WordPress.com connector in Claude. It needs no download, and new posts are drafts by default. It needs a paid WordPress.com plan. Confirmed
- **Self-hosted site, and you want Claude to handle content:** WP Publisher for Claude. Drafts, scheduling, edits to live posts and Yoast or Rank Math SEO fields on up to five sites, with your approval before anything goes live and no delete tools. Nothing is installed on the site except an optional SEO plugin. It only works in Claude Desktop. Confirmed
- **You want Claude to run much more of the site** (WooCommerce, users, settings, plugins and themes): Easy MCP AI or AI Engine, both free plugins. Confirmed
- **You are a developer building your own AI tools on WordPress:** the official WordPress MCP Adapter. Confirmed
- **You manage many sites from a terminal-friendly setup:** mcp-wordpress, open source, up to 50 sites, but it includes delete tools. Confirmed

A "WordPress publisher for Claude" is anything that lets Claude write to a WordPress website directly: create a draft, upload an image, set categories and publish, without you copying and pasting from the chat. Almost all of them use the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the standard Claude uses to talk to outside tools. Where they differ is in three places that matter far more than the tool count: **where the software runs**, **what Claude is allowed to change**, and **what stops a half-finished post from going live**.

This guide compares the six options I would actually consider in October 2026, plus one paid connector worth knowing about. Every claim is linked to the product's own page and labelled. Where a product's documentation does not say something, the table says "not documented" rather than guessing "no".

## 1. The comparison at a glance

Two tables: the first covers setup and cost, the second covers safety and scope. On a phone, scroll each table sideways.

### Setup and cost

| Option | Where it runs | Self-hosted WordPress? | Install on your site? | Sites | Price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| WP Publisher for Claude | On your computer, inside Claude Desktop | Yes (5.6+, HTTPS) | No (an optional small plugin adds SEO fields) | Up to 5, each with its own login and image folder | Free |
| WordPress.com connector | Hosted by WordPress.com; Claude Desktop or claude.ai | Only via Jetpack with a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan | No | All your WordPress.com sites by default, with exceptions | Paid WordPress.com plan (free sites: first 30 days) |
| WordPress MCP Adapter | On your website | Yes | Yes | One site per install | Free, open source (GPL) |
| AI Engine (Meow Apps) | On your website | Yes | Yes (plugin) | One site per install | MCP free; extra MCP tools in Pro |
| Easy MCP AI (Themeisle) | On your website | Yes (6.0+, PHP 7.4+) | Yes (plugin) | One site per install; multisite gets one endpoint per subsite | Free, all 280+ tools |
| mcp-wordpress (docdyhr) | On your computer (Claude Desktop extension, npm or Docker) | Yes | No | Up to 50 from one configuration | Free, open source (MIT) |
| Claude CMS Connector (Receptive Media) | Plugin on your website plus a hosted server | Yes | Yes (plugin) | One site per connection | £6.99 a month after a one-month trial |

### Safety and scope

| Option | New posts start as drafts? | What happens before publishing | Can Claude delete? | What else Claude can change |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| WP Publisher for Claude | Always; no way round it | Your approval in Claude Desktop and the exact title, for publishing, scheduling, live edits and unpublishing | No delete tools | Only content: posts, pages, images, categories, tags, authors and SEO fields; never users, settings, plugins or themes |
| WordPress.com connector | Yes, by default | Write actions ask for your confirmation | Yes: posts go to trash for 30 days; media, categories and tags are deleted permanently | Pages, comments, site editing, plugins and users, each toggleable |
| WordPress MCP Adapter | Depends on the abilities you expose | Per-ability permission checks | Depends on the abilities you expose | Whatever abilities you and your plugins make public |
| AI Engine (Meow Apps) | Not documented | Runs as your WordPress user; Editor Access limits editors to content they can edit | Administrators only | Plugins, themes, database and WooCommerce (Pro), media, comments, SEO checks |
| Easy MCP AI (Themeisle) | Optional "Force Draft on Create", off by default | Runs as your WordPress user; you choose tools per token, including read-only | Not documented | 280+ tools: users, settings, plugins, themes, WooCommerce, Yoast, Rank Math, analytics |
| mcp-wordpress (docdyhr) | Not documented | Not documented | Yes, posts can be deleted | 71 tools including users, comments, site settings and cache |
| Claude CMS Connector (Receptive Media) | Optional drafts-only mode | Access controls and an audit log | Not documented (unpublishing is) | Pages, WooCommerce, custom fields, theme and plugin files (with backups) |

All rows come from each product's own page, linked in the sections below and in the sources at the end, checked on 20 October 2026. Plugins update often (two of these updated in the three days before I checked), so confirm anything important on the product's page before you rely on it. Confirmed

## 2. How I compared them

I read each product's own documentation, plugin listing or GitHub README on 20 October 2026, and filled the tables only from what those pages say. I did not use third-party reviews for facts, because several I found disagreed with the products' own docs (one called the WordPress.com connector read-only; its own guide documents full write access). Confirmed

I judged them on what a person publishing content actually needs to know:

- **Hosting fit:** does it work with your kind of WordPress site?
- **Install footprint:** does it add a plugin and a public endpoint to your website, or run elsewhere?
- **Publishing safety:** are new posts drafts, and what has to happen before something goes live?
- **Blast radius:** if Claude misunderstands you, what is the worst it can change or delete?
- **Reach:** how many sites, and which Claude apps?

A bigger tool count is not automatically better. Every extra tool is something Claude can call by mistake, so the right number is the smallest one that covers your work. Opinion

## 3. WP Publisher for Claude: best for safe content publishing on self-hosted sites

[WP Publisher for Claude](https://thejayant.in/wp-publisher) is a free Claude Desktop extension (a 58 KB `.mcpb` file, version 1.6.0, updated on 20 October 2026; first released on 17 October). It runs on your own computer and talks to each WordPress site over HTTPS using a WordPress Application Password, so nothing has to be installed on the website. Confirmed

- **Up to five sites**, each with its own login and its own image folder on your computer, so an image for one client cannot be uploaded to another.
- **Sixteen tools.** Eight only read (sites, connection test, authors, categories, tags, images, posts, a single post), four write drafts, images and categories, and four change live content: publish, schedule, edit a live post and unpublish.
- **Drafts first, always.** New posts and pages are always created as drafts. Publishing, scheduling, editing a live post and unpublishing each need your approval in Claude Desktop and the post's exact current title, so a wrong post ID or wrong site is caught. An optional check stops Claude overwriting a post someone edited in WordPress after Claude read it.
- **SEO fields.** With the free WP Publisher SEO Bridge plugin on a site, Claude can set the SEO title, meta description, focus keyword and canonical URL in Yoast SEO or Rank Math. It is the only thing you would install on the website, and it is optional.
- **Pages and Markdown.** It writes pages as well as posts, and converts Markdown to HTML on your computer. Images can be PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or AVIF, and can be set as the featured image in the same step.
- **No delete tools.** It cannot delete posts, pages, images, categories or users, and it never touches users, settings, plugins or themes.
- **Any author.** Claude can credit a post to anyone on that site, if the connected account is an Editor or Administrator.

**Where it falls short:** it works only in Claude Desktop on Windows and macOS, not on claude.ai in a browser or the mobile apps. It does not handle WooCommerce, custom post types, users or site settings, and it cannot upload an image from a web address. You install it by hand from a file rather than from Claude's connector directory, and SEO fields need the small plugin on each site. It ships with 85 automated tests run against simulated WordPress responses, plus a PHP test harness for the SEO plugin, and was developed on Windows, so try it on a staging site first. Observed

**Best for:** bloggers, agencies and SEOs who publish to one to five self-hosted WordPress sites, want Claude to draft, schedule and fix posts and their SEO fields, and want nothing to go live or be deleted without their say-so. Opinion Setup takes about ten minutes: [see the install steps](https://thejayant.in/wp-publisher#install), or [the comparison on the product page](https://thejayant.in/wp-publisher#compare).

## 4. WordPress.com connector: best for sites hosted on WordPress.com

WordPress.com has an official connector in Claude's connectors directory. You turn on MCP access in your WordPress.com account, add the connector in Claude Desktop or on claude.ai, and choose _Full access_ or _Read only_ when you authorise it. It works on all paid WordPress.com plans; free sites get it for their first 30 days. Self-hosted sites connected through Jetpack can use it with a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan. ([WordPress.com: Edit your site with Claude](https://wordpress.com/support/mcp/connect-claude/), updated 13 October 2026.) Confirmed

- **New posts are drafts by default**, but updating a post with the status set to publish takes it live immediately ([MCP tools reference](https://developer.wordpress.com/docs/mcp/tools-reference/)).
- **Write actions ask for confirmation**, including deletions. Deleted posts and pages sit in the trash for 30 days; deleted media, categories and tags are permanent.
- **Wide scope, with switches.** About 60 content operations, plus site editing, plugins and users. Every operation has its own toggle, and you can exclude sites ([MCP settings guide](https://wordpress.com/support/model-context-protocol-mcp-settings/), reviewed 7 October 2026).
- **Media** can be uploaded from a file or a public HTTPS address, up to 50 MB.
- Scheduling and setting a post's author are **not documented** in the tools reference.

**Best for:** anyone whose site is on WordPress.com. It is built and maintained by the host, works in the browser as well as the desktop app, and needs no download. If you only want publishing, switch off the plugin and user tool groups. Opinion

## 5. WordPress MCP Adapter: best for developers building their own abilities

The [WordPress MCP Adapter](https://github.com/WordPress/mcp-adapter) describes itself as "the official WordPress package for MCP integration". It sits on your website and turns abilities registered through WordPress's Abilities API into MCP tools. Abilities are private by default; you or another plugin must mark each one public before an AI client can see it. The default server offers three meta-tools: discover abilities, get information about one, and run one. It supports HTTP and STDIO transports and per-ability permission checks, under GPL-2.0-or-later. Confirmed

That design makes it a building block rather than a finished publisher: whether Claude can create drafts, publish or delete depends entirely on the abilities that are exposed on your site. When I checked, the GitHub repository had no tagged releases and its latest migration guide was for version 0.7.0. Confirmed

**Best for:** developers and agencies who want to define exactly what AI agents can do on a site, with WordPress's own permission model, and who are comfortable writing and maintaining the abilities themselves. Opinion

## 6. AI Engine by Meow Apps: best for an all-in-one AI plugin you already use

[AI Engine](https://wordpress.org/plugins/ai-engine/) is a broad AI plugin (chatbots, content tools, forms) with a built-in MCP server. Version 3.8.6 was updated on 17 October 2026 and lists 90,000+ active installs. It names Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT as clients; desktop clients connect by signing in to WordPress through OAuth, so there is no shared token. Confirmed

- **More than fifty tools**, covering posts, comments, media, SEO and analytics checks, themes and images.
- **Pro adds "Extra MCP Tools"**: plugin, theme, database, Polylang, WPML and WooCommerce management. The listing does not give the Pro price.
- **Permissions follow your WordPress account.** Administrators get full access. With Editor Access turned on, editors can only work on content they can already edit; settings, users, plugins, themes and deleting stay with administrators.
- Whether new posts default to drafts, and post scheduling through MCP, are **not documented** on the listing.

**Best for:** site owners who already run AI Engine or want one plugin for chatbots, content and MCP, and who are comfortable with an administrator-level connection. Opinion

## 7. Easy MCP AI by Themeisle: best for managing the whole site, WooCommerce and SEO fields included

[Easy MCP AI](https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-mcp-ai/) is a free plugin from Themeisle that turns your site into an MCP server with 280+ tools, all included at no cost. Version 2.2.1 was updated on 19 October 2026, lists 20,000+ active installs and needs WordPress 6.0 and PHP 7.4 or newer. It names Claude on the web, Desktop, Cowork and Claude Code, plus many other clients. Confirmed

- **The widest scope here:** 130+ core tools (posts, pages, media, users, roles, menus, plugins, themes, settings, blocks), 47 WooCommerce tools, Yoast and Rank Math fields, and connections to GA4, Search Console, Semrush and others.
- **It can schedule**: the listing says the tools "draft, rewrite, schedule and publish" posts and pages.
- **Drafts are optional.** "Force Draft on Create" is off by default; when on, new posts, pages, products and events are saved as drafts, but it does not cover later edits.
- **Good controls:** OAuth 2.1 or hashed API tokens, a choice of tools per token (including read-only), a rate limit, a 30-day audit log and before-and-after change history.
- Whether tools can delete content is **not documented** on the listing.

**Best for:** store owners and site managers who want Claude to handle WooCommerce, SEO plugin fields, scheduling and settings, not just posts. Turn on Force Draft on Create and limit each token to the tools you need. Opinion

## 8. mcp-wordpress by docdyhr: best for many sites from one open-source setup

[mcp-wordpress](https://github.com/docdyhr/mcp-wordpress) is an open-source MCP server under the MIT licence that runs on your computer, so like my extension it needs nothing on the website. You can install it as a Claude Desktop extension, through npm or with Docker. The latest version listed is 3.3.21, from July 2026. Confirmed

- **Up to 50 sites** from one configuration.
- **71 tools in 12 groups**: posts, pages, media, SEO, users, comments, taxonomies, site settings, authentication, cache, performance and system.
- **Includes deleting:** the posts tools cover "create, edit, delete, list posts and revisions".
- Supports Application Passwords (recommended), JWT, Basic Auth and API keys.
- Draft defaults, checks before publishing and scheduling are **not documented** in the README.

**Best for:** technical users who manage many self-hosted sites and want broad control without installing anything on them. Use a WordPress account with only the role it needs, because the tools can delete. Opinion

## 9. Also worth knowing: Claude CMS Connector by Receptive Media

The [Claude CMS Connector](https://www.receptivemedia.co.uk/marketplace/wordpress-mcp/) is the one paid option I found: £6.99 a month after a one-month free trial, one site per connection. It pairs a plugin on your website with a hosted server and connects to Claude Desktop or claude.ai through OAuth 2.1. It can publish, update or unpublish posts and pages, manage WooCommerce products, upload media, edit theme and plugin files (with a backup first) and update custom fields. A drafts-only mode switches publishing off, and every call is logged. Deleting is not documented. Confirmed

**Best for:** a single site where you want a supported, hosted connection with WooCommerce and theme editing, and are happy to pay monthly. Opinion

## 10. Which WordPress publisher should you choose?

Answer these in order and stop at the first yes:

1. **Is your site on WordPress.com?** Use the WordPress.com connector.
2. **Are you a developer who wants to define the exact actions AI can take?** Use the WordPress MCP Adapter.
3. **Do you want Claude to manage WooCommerce, users, settings, plugins or themes?** Use Easy MCP AI, or AI Engine if you already run it. Receptive Media's connector is the paid alternative.
4. **Do you manage more than five self-hosted sites and are you comfortable with configuration files?** Use mcp-wordpress.
5. **Do you mainly want Claude to write, schedule and publish posts and pages, with their SEO fields, on one to five self-hosted sites, with no way to publish or delete by accident?** Use [WP Publisher for Claude](https://thejayant.in/wp-publisher#install).

Whichever you pick, three habits matter more than the tool: connect with a WordPress account that has only the role it needs, keep publishing on "ask" rather than "always allow" in Claude, and read every draft in WordPress before you approve it. Opinion

## 11. Frequently asked questions

### What is the best WordPress publisher for Claude?

There is no single best one. For a site on WordPress.com, use the official WordPress.com connector in Claude. For self-hosted WordPress where you want Claude to draft, schedule and publish content, including Yoast or Rank Math SEO fields, with your approval before anything goes live, WP Publisher for Claude is built for that. For managing WooCommerce, users and site settings too, Easy MCP AI or AI Engine do more.

### Can Claude publish directly to WordPress?

Yes. With a connector, extension or plugin that uses the Model Context Protocol, Claude can create drafts, upload images and publish posts on a WordPress site. How much it can change, and whether it asks before publishing, depends on the tool you choose.

### Do I need to install a plugin on my WordPress site to use Claude?

Not always. WP Publisher for Claude and mcp-wordpress run on your own computer and connect with a WordPress Application Password (WP Publisher only needs a small optional plugin for Yoast or Rank Math fields), and the WordPress.com connector is hosted by WordPress.com. The WordPress MCP Adapter, AI Engine, Easy MCP AI and Claude CMS Connector are installed on your website.

### Is there a free WordPress publisher for Claude?

Yes. WP Publisher for Claude, the WordPress MCP Adapter, Easy MCP AI and mcp-wordpress are free, and AI Engine's MCP server is free with extra tools in its Pro version. The WordPress.com connector needs a paid WordPress.com plan, and Claude CMS Connector costs £6.99 a month after a one-month trial.

### Does the WordPress.com Claude connector work with self-hosted WordPress?

Only through Jetpack. WordPress.com says self-hosted sites connected through Jetpack can use its MCP tools with a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan. Without Jetpack, a self-hosted site needs a different option, such as WP Publisher for Claude, mcp-wordpress or a plugin like Easy MCP AI.

### Which WordPress publisher for Claude is safest?

The safest setup is the one that gives Claude the fewest permissions it needs. WP Publisher for Claude always creates drafts, has no delete tools, and needs your approval and the exact title before anything goes live, including scheduling and edits to live posts. The WordPress.com connector asks for confirmation before write actions, and Easy MCP AI lets you limit each token to chosen tools. Whichever you use, connect with the lowest WordPress role that works.
