01How it works

Prompt, review, publish.

Three steps from a chat message to a live post. ChatGPT handles the drafting and editing; going live is always your call.

  1. You ask, ChatGPT drafts

Ask in plain words, in HTML or Markdown. ChatGPT picks the website, writes the post or page, uploads images you attach to the chat, sets categories, tags, the author and SEO fields, and saves it as a draft.

    create_draftupload_imagelist_authors
  2. You check it in WordPress

Open the draft with its preview link and change anything you like. ChatGPT can edit drafts for you at any time, and can change a live post later, but only with your approval.

    get_postupdate_draftedit_published_post
  3. You confirm, it goes live

Say "publish it" or "schedule it for Monday at 9". ChatGPT asks you to confirm and the title has to match the post. Changed your mind? ChatGPT can unpublish it, again only after you confirm.

    publish_postschedule_postunpublish_post

02Websites

Five websites. One conversation.

Connect your websites once, on the sign-in page that opens when you connect the app. After that, just say which site a post is for.

  • Its own login for every siteEach website uses its own WordPress Application Password, entered on the sign-in page, never in the chat. Every login is checked before you're connected.
  • Add a website laterReconnect, and the websites you already connected in that browser are kept, so you only add the new one.
  • Nothing mixes between sitesPost 128 on one website and post 128 on another are different posts; ChatGPT always keeps the site with the ID.
  • It asks when you don't sayIf a request could mean more than one site, ChatGPT asks which one instead of guessing.

03Authors

The right name on every byline.

One login per website, but each post can be credited to whoever on the team wrote it.

  • Name the author in plain wordsChatGPT looks up that person's author ID on the right website with list_authors and sets it on the draft.
  • Needs an Editor or Administrator accountAuthor and Contributor accounts can only post as themselves. WordPress refuses the request and nothing is created.
  • No email addresses sharedChatGPT only sees each author's ID, name and username.
  • Leave it out to keep the defaultNew drafts go to the connected account, and edits keep the current author.

On website-1, create a draft titled “Q3 Product Update” with Priya Sharma as the author. Don't publish.

04Safety

ChatGPT drafts. You publish.

Before anything goes live, it has to pass these checks. Scheduling, editing a live post and unpublishing go through the same ones. If a check fails, nothing changes.

  1. You confirmed itChatGPT asks you to confirm publish_post, schedule_post, live edits and unpublishing before they run.
  2. The title matchesThe title ChatGPT gives must match post 128 on that website, so a wrong ID or wrong site is caught.
  3. It's the right kind of postOnly drafts and pending posts can be published. Changing a live post is a separate tool with its own approval.
  4. Nobody changed it meanwhileWhen ChatGPT passes the post's last-modified time, nothing is written if someone edited it in WordPress since ChatGPT read it.

All four checks passed. Spring Campaign Recap is live on website-1.

Drafts first, always

New posts and pages are always created as drafts. There is no way to create one that is live straight away.

Passwords never in the chat

Application Passwords are entered on the sign-in page and encrypted into the connection ChatGPT keeps. The server stores none of them, and they never appear in replies or errors.

HTTPS only, public sites only

It talks only to the HTTPS websites you connected and refuses private and internal network addresses, so your login can't be sent anywhere else.

Images from the chat

Uploads come from an image you attach in ChatGPT or a public https link. Each file is checked, held for that one request, then deleted.

No delete tools

It can't delete posts, images, categories or users. Removing anything still happens in WordPress, by you.

Read before you confirm

Your confirmation is the real check. When ChatGPT asks to run publish_post, schedule_post, edit_published_post or unpublish_post, check the site and the post first.

05Setup

No download. One address.

About five minutes, start to finish. Add one address in ChatGPT, sign in with your websites, and, if you use Yoast SEO or Rank Math, add a small free plugin to each site so ChatGPT can fill in your SEO fields.

Required

WP Publisher for ChatGPTChatGPT app · v1.0.0 · hosted, nothing to install

Added in ChatGPT with one address. It's what lets ChatGPT draft, schedule and publish on your WordPress sites.

  • 15 tools for up to five WordPress sites, drafts first.
  • Add it under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings, with Developer mode on.
  • Works on the web, in the ChatGPT desktop app and on your phone.

Recommended if you use Yoast or Rank Math

WP Publisher SEO BridgeWordPress plugin · v1.1.0 · 22 KB

Why it matters: your SEO title and meta description are what Google shows in search results. Yoast SEO and Rank Math keep them out of WordPress's API, so without this plugin ChatGPT can write the post but can't set them, and you'd have to fill them in by hand on every post.
  • Lets ChatGPT set the SEO title, meta description, focus keyword and canonical URL.
  • Install it on each website, under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  • No settings, never contacts any outside service. The same plugin works with the Claude version.
Download SEO BridgeSHA-256 a4e642c8…0152
  1. Check you have what's needed

    • A ChatGPT plan with Developer mode. OpenAI changes which plans allow write actions from time to time, so check yours.
    • A WordPress website on HTTPS, version 5.6 or newer.
    • A WordPress account that can write posts. To credit posts to other people, use an Editor or Administrator account.
  2. Create an Application Password

In WordPress admin, go to Users → Profile, scroll to Application Passwords, type the name ChatGPT and click Add New Application Password.

Copy the password now: WordPress shows it only once. It isn't your login password, and you can revoke it from the same screen at any time.

  3. Turn on Developer mode

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Apps & Connectors, click Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. Menu names vary a little between ChatGPT versions. On a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin may need to allow custom apps first.

  4. Create the app

Click Create app, name it WP Publisher, paste this address, set authentication to OAuth and click Create.

    https://wp-publisher-mcp.vercel.app/mcp

  5. Connect your websites

Click Connect. On the sign-in page that opens, add each website:

    • a name, like Company Blog
    • the website address, like https://example.com (no /wp-admin)
    • your WordPress username and the Application Password from step 2

Add up to five, then click Check and connect. Each login is checked before you're sent back to ChatGPT.

Adding a website later? Reconnect: the websites you connected in that browser are listed and kept, so you only add the new one.

  6. Add SEO fields with the SEO Bridge plugin

Recommended if your site uses Yoast SEO or Rank Math. On each website:

    • Download wp-publisher-seo-bridge.zip (22 KB).
    • In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip, click Install Now, then Activate.
    • Open Tools → WP Publisher SEO Bridge and check it shows your SEO plugin.
    Download SEO Bridge (.zip)

Skip this and everything else still works. If you later ask ChatGPT for an SEO title, it will tell you the plugin is missing, and nothing is saved.

  7. Test the connection

Start a new chat, choose WP Publisher from the tools menu (the + button), and ask:

List my websites, then test website-1. Don't create or publish anything.

  8. Write your first draft

On website-1, create a draft titled “Hello from ChatGPT”, slug hello-from-chatgpt, with a short welcome paragraph, SEO title “Hello from ChatGPT | Company Blog” and a one-line meta description. Don't publish.

Check the draft in WordPress. When you're happy, tell ChatGPT to publish it and click Confirm when it asks.

06Tools

Fifteen tools for content. Zero delete buttons.

Seven only read. Four write drafts, images and categories. Four change what's live, and each one waits for you to confirm. Hover a tool to see what you might ask.

The best WordPress publisher for ChatGPT? Compare for yourself.

There are several ways to let ChatGPT write to WordPress. Here is how WP Publisher for ChatGPT compares with the main alternatives, including where they do more than we do.

Scroll the table sideways to see every option.

Compared from each product's own documentation, checked on 21 October 2026. "Not documented" means we couldn't find it in their docs, not that it's missing. ChatGPT itself asks you to confirm write actions for every app; the checks row is about each product's own checks.

08FAQ

Asked and answered.

Still stuck? Send me a note and I'll help you get it working.

What is the best WordPress publisher for ChatGPT?

It depends on your site. For self-hosted WordPress where you want nothing installed on the site, several sites in one connection and drafts-first safety, WP Publisher for ChatGPT is built for exactly that. If your site is on WordPress.com, its own MCP connection is the natural choice. If you want ChatGPT to manage WooCommerce, users or site settings too, a plugin such as Easy MCP AI or AI Engine does more. The comparison table shows the differences side by side.

How do I add WP Publisher to ChatGPT?

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. Click Create app, name it WP Publisher, paste https://wp-publisher-mcp.vercel.app/mcp, choose OAuth and create it. Then click Connect and add your websites with their Application Passwords. Full setup steps.

Which ChatGPT plans can use it?

It needs Developer mode, which OpenAI offers on paid plans in ChatGPT on the web. On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to allow custom apps first. OpenAI changes which plans allow write actions from time to time, so check yours. Once it's added on the web, it also works in the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps.

Is it free?

Yes. There's no account, subscription or usage limit. You only need your own ChatGPT plan.

Does my content or password go through your server?

Yes, because ChatGPT can only use apps that are hosted online: each request goes from ChatGPT to the WP Publisher server and on to your website over HTTPS. Your websites and Application Passwords are encrypted (AES-256-GCM) into the connection token that ChatGPT keeps, and decrypted in memory only while a request runs.

The server has no database and stores nothing about you. Images are held in a temporary file for one request, then deleted. Logs record the page path, status code and timing only, never post content, images or passwords. See the privacy notice.

How is my Application Password kept safe?

You enter it on the sign-in page, never in the chat, and it's checked against your website before anything is saved. It is sent only to that website, never shown back to ChatGPT, and never included in error messages.

An Application Password isn't your login password, and you can revoke it any time in WordPress under Users → Profile → Application Passwords. That cuts off access instantly.

Can it publish without asking me?

No. publish_post, schedule_post, edit_published_post and unpublish_post are marked as actions that change your site, so ChatGPT asks you to confirm each one, and the post's title has to match too. New posts are always drafts.

How do I add or remove a website later?

Disconnect WP Publisher in ChatGPT and connect again. The sign-in page lists the websites you connected in that browser, already ticked: keep them, untick one to remove it, and add the new one below. They're remembered in an encrypted cookie in your own browser for up to 180 days; untick Remember these websites on a shared computer.

Does it work in the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps?

Yes. Set it up once in ChatGPT on the web, and it's available in the ChatGPT desktop app and on your phone with the same account. In each chat, choose WP Publisher from the tools menu.

Which images can I upload?

Attach an image to the chat, or give ChatGPT a public https link to one. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and AVIF files up to 20 MB are accepted (AVIF needs WordPress 6.5 or newer), and each file's content is checked against its type. Links to private or internal network addresses are refused.

ChatGPT can set an uploaded image as a draft's featured image in the same step, or place it in the content.

What is the SEO Bridge plugin, and do I need it?

Only if you want ChatGPT to set SEO fields. Yoast SEO and Rank Math keep their fields out of the WordPress REST API, so this small free plugin adds one field that lets ChatGPT read and set the SEO title, meta description, focus keyword and canonical URL. It has no settings and never contacts an outside service. Download the plugin (22 KB) and install it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. Everything else works without it.

Something isn't working. What should I check?
  • A website fails on the sign-in page: check the username and Application Password, the account's role, and whether a security plugin blocks the WordPress REST API.
  • An OAuth or sign-in error in ChatGPT: delete the WP Publisher app in ChatGPT and create it again with the same address.
  • No tools in a chat: choose WP Publisher from the tools menu in that chat, and check Developer mode is still on.
  • Timeout: look in WordPress before retrying. The draft or image may already have been saved.
How is it different from WP Publisher for Claude?

It's the same publisher with the same checks. WP Publisher for Claude is a Claude Desktop extension that runs on your computer, keeps passwords in Claude's settings and uploads images from a folder. ChatGPT can't run desktop extensions, so this edition is a hosted app: you sign in on a web page, images come from the chat, and it has 15 tools instead of 16 (there's no folder to list).

Has it been tested?

Yes. The server has its own automated tests for the sign-in flow (OAuth with PKCE), token checks, blocked network addresses, image uploads and remembered websites, on top of the 85 tests of the WP Publisher 1.6.0 tools it runs. It was also tested end to end in ChatGPT on 21 October 2026. Try it on a staging site first, and tell me if anything doesn't work on yours.
