GTA VI: Everything We Know Before the November 2026 Launch

Rockstar has confirmed a 19 November 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a $79.99 base price, and — as of 27 August — 26 minutes of gameplay captured on a retail PS5. Here is everything that is actually confirmed, separated from everything that isn't.

Reported Credible press reporting of developer comments, not an official publication.

Speculation Inference, leak-derived material or community analysis. Not confirmed by anyone.

Most GTA VI coverage blends four very different kinds of claim into one paragraph: what Rockstar has published, what appeared on screen, what a journalist was told, and what someone worked out from a leaked map. That mixture is why so much of it contradicts itself.

This page labels every claim. If it says Confirmed, there is an official source behind it. If it says Speculation, it is someone's inference — possibly a very good one, but not a fact.

Rockstar confirms the 19 November launch and the current-console platforms. Take-Two lists the base version at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, with pre-orders having opened on 25 June 2026.

1. GTA VI release date

GTA VI releases on 19 November 2026. Confirmed That date has been in place since Rockstar announced it in November 2025, and Take-Two has publicly reaffirmed it since — including when pre-orders opened in June 2026.

The delay history

It took three windows to get here:

WindowAnnouncedOutcome
2025Trailer 1, December 2023Moved
26 May 2026May 2025Moved
19 November 2026November 2025Current date

Rockstar's stated reason for the moves was additional time for polish. There is no public evidence of a fourth delay, and the company has continued marketing against the November date — the Extended Look in August 2026 being the clearest signal that the date is real.

On "is it delayed again?"

As of 30 August 2026, no. Any claim otherwise circulating on social media is unsourced. The reliable check is Rockstar's own Newswire and Take-Two's investor communications — not aggregator sites, which have repeatedly recycled old delay stories with new dates.

2. Platforms

There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and no last-generation release has been announced. This is a current-console-only launch.

Will there be a PC version?

Rockstar has not announced one. No date, no platform listing, no confirmation of any kind. Not announced

What people are actually reasoning from is precedent: GTA V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and reached PC in April 2015, and Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar console-first pattern. That precedent makes a later PC release plausible. It does not make it announced, and any site giving you a specific PC date is inventing it. Speculation

3. Price, editions and pre-order bonuses

EditionPriceContents
Standard Edition$79.99Base game
Ultimate Edition$99.99Base game plus additional in-game content tied to the story — vehicles, weapons and clothing

Both prices are confirmed by Take-Two. Confirmed The $79.99 standard price is notable in itself: it moves a headline AAA release above the $69.99 point that has been the ceiling for most of this console generation.

Pre-order bonuses

Note the wording on the Vintage Vice City Pack: it is tied to purchasing before 20 November, not strictly to pre-ordering. Buying on launch day still qualifies.

A physical Collector's Edition has been widely discussed in the press; treat specific contents and prices for it as unconfirmed unless they appear in Rockstar's own store listing. Speculation

What we don't know about the editions

Rockstar has published prices and the headline contents. It has not published a full item-by-item manifest of what the Ultimate Edition adds, and it has not confirmed whether any of that content becomes separately purchasable later. Treat detailed Ultimate Edition contents lists as unverified unless they carry a Rockstar store screenshot. Not announced

Regional pricing

The $79.99 and $99.99 figures are US pricing. Regional prices vary by storefront and currency, and India and UAE pricing in particular has historically diverged considerably from a straight conversion. Check your own platform store rather than converting the dollar figure. Confirmed for US pricing only.

4. The story

Rockstar's framing is deliberately spare. The game follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple who become caught in a criminal conspiracy that spreads across the state of Leonida after an apparently straightforward score goes wrong. Confirmed

Two things follow from that setup, and both are visible in the official material rather than inferred:

Rockstar has not published a mission list, an ending count, or a campaign length. Any number you see for "how long is GTA 6" is a guess. Speculation

5. Characters

Rockstar has published official profiles for the two protagonists and a supporting cast. Below is the roster with what the official material actually establishes — no fan-cast attributions, and no voice-actor names, because Rockstar has confirmed none.

Jason Duval

Playable protagonist. Confirmed An Army veteran who has drifted into drug running in the Leonida Keys, looking for an easier life and finding the opposite. Jason is the more reactive half of the pair — the one who gets pulled along.

Lucia Caminos

Playable protagonist. Confirmed The first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game. Rockstar's material establishes that she has served time, that her instincts are sharper and harder than Jason's, and that she is driving the pair's ambitions rather than following them.

Cal Hampton

Jason's associate. Confirmed Presented as a conspiracy-minded friend who spends his life online and on the radio.

Boobie Ike

A Vice City businessman who has converted a criminal reputation into legitimate-looking enterprises, including a recording studio. Confirmed The Extended Look opens with Jason and Lucia collecting a package for someone named Boobie. Observed

Dre'Quan Priest

A music promoter turned label operator, connected to Boobie Ike's world. Confirmed

Real Dimez — Bae-Luxe and Roxy

A rap duo signed into Dre'Quan's orbit. Confirmed Note that this is one profile covering two characters, which is why the roster counts differently depending on who is counting.

Raul Bautista

A bank robber who assembles crews for high-risk jobs. Confirmed

Brian Heder

A boat-yard operator in the Keys with a criminal past, connected to Jason's situation there. Confirmed

On cast lists circulating online

Several sites publish "full voice cast" lists assembled from public acting profiles and casting call listings. Rockstar has confirmed none of them. Actor attributions for these characters are community research, not official information, and should be labelled as such. Speculation

6. The map: Leonida and Vice City

GTA VI is set in the state of Leonida, Rockstar's fictional Florida, with Vice City as its principal urban centre. Confirmed The Florida parallel is not subtle and not disputed — Vice City has been Rockstar's Miami since 1986-set Vice City in 2002.

What makes this map different from GTA V's is that the state, not the city, is the unit. Rockstar has officially named these areas:

LocationWhat Rockstar establishesReal-world parallel
Vice CityThe main city — beaches, nightlife, high-rises and the neighbourhoods around themMiami
Leonida KeysThe island chain to the south; Jason and Lucia's starting territoryFlorida Keys
GrassriversWetlands — mangroves, channels and swampThe Everglades
Port GellhornA faded coastal town of motels, strip malls and a working portFlorida Panhandle coast
AmbrosiaRural and industrial county — agriculture, refineries, biker countryInland agricultural Florida
Mount KalagaForested highlands and a national park, with hunting, fishing and off-road terrainNorth Florida state forests

All six are officially named. Confirmed

How big is the map?

Rockstar has not published a map size. The widely repeated figure — roughly 1.7× or "70% bigger than" GTA V — derives from leaked material and community measurement, not from Rockstar. Speculation

The same applies to the interactive fan maps that circulate with street-level detail. Some of them are impressive work. None of them is an official map, and several are built partly on the 2022 leak, which is a poor basis for anything given how much the game changed afterwards.

What we can say about scale without guessing

The Extended Look moves between dense urban blocks, open water, wetlands and highway, and Rockstar's own location descriptions cover a city, an island chain, swamp, a second coastal town, farmland and mountains. That establishes variety and a multi-region state. It does not establish square kilometres, and anyone quoting a precise figure is quoting a leak.

7. Gameplay: what the Extended Look actually showed

On 27 August 2026, Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — roughly 26 minutes, premiered on Netflix and released free on Rockstar's own channels afterwards. Confirmed

The important technical claim is Rockstar's own: the footage was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5 — a retail console, not a PC and not a Pro. Confirmed That matters because it sets a floor: what you saw is what the base hardware produces.

Everything in this section is Observed unless marked otherwise — visible in the footage, but not necessarily representative of the full systems behind it.

Dual protagonists and switching

Character switching appears mid-mission, including within a single vehicle and mid-action. Transitions were fast — a second or two — rather than the long camera pull-outs of GTA V. The pair share a bank balance and weapon inventory, and the non-controlled character participates in fights rather than standing idle.

How freely you can switch outside scripted missions is not established by the footage. Speculation

Driving

Vehicle handling looks heavier and more simulation-leaning than GTA V. Detail work is visible: folding convertible roofs, headlights failing individually as a car takes damage. One character can drive while the other shoots from a window or the back seat, and a passenger can browse in-game social media on a phone while riding.

Shooting and combat

Cover-based gunplay with slow-motion finishing flourishes, one-handed shotgun use, weapon pickup from the ground, and unarmed exchanges including dodging. Vehicle entry has options — a slim jim for a quiet entry rather than always breaking a window, selected from on-screen prompts.

Police and the wanted system

The wanted meter reaches four stars in the footage. Police storm buildings during jobs and pursue by helicopter. The star ceiling is not established by what was shown, and claims about a specific maximum should be treated carefully. Speculation

Water and outdoor activity

Scuba diving, jet skis, kayaks, fishing and base jumping all appear. Given a map with an island chain, wetlands and a national park, water and terrain traversal look like first-class systems rather than novelties.

In-game social media

A phone-based social feed is usable during play, including as a passenger. The footage includes a livestreaming sequence with a visible chat and viewer counter. In-world television shows and advertising also appear — the satirical media layer the series is known for, extended into short-form video culture.

Nightlife, businesses and interiors

Bars and clubs with dancing, a strip club, arcade machines, diners, stores that can be robbed, trap houses and residential blocks. Interiors appear frequently enough to suggest a higher ratio of enterable buildings than GTA V, though no figure has been published. Speculation

Side activities

Basketball, gym workouts with timed button inputs, racing, robbery, and general exploration.

Crowds and wildlife

Crowd density is high and NPC variety is visibly wide — the footage does not show the obvious clone-repetition that gives most open worlds away. Mount Kalaga's description includes wildlife such as deer, and hunting and fishing as activities. Confirmed

Performance

The footage runs at 30fps, and Rockstar has indicated this is how the game ships, with higher-frame-rate options unresolved rather than promised. Reported This came via developer comments reported in the press rather than a formal Rockstar publication, which is why it is labelled Reported rather than Confirmed.

Radio and music

Radio has been a defining part of the series since the first game, and the Extended Look includes in-world television and advertising alongside the social feed. Observed Rockstar has not published a station list or a licensed soundtrack. Any track list circulating now is speculation, and historically Rockstar has held soundtrack details close to launch. Not announced

Vehicles

The footage shows cars, jet skis and kayaks, with visible damage modelling — headlights failing individually, convertible roofs folding. Observed No vehicle count has been published, and no vehicle list is confirmed. Vehicle names in circulation come from the 2022 leak or community analysis of trailer frames. Speculation

Character customisation and progression

Clothing appears as Ultimate Edition content, which implies a wardrobe system. Confirmed Beyond that, nothing about progression, skills, property ownership or business ownership has been announced. The gym workout shown in the Extended Look suggests some physical stat system, but that is inference from one clip. Speculation

8. What Rockstar has not announced

A canonical page is as useful for what it rules out as for what it confirms. As of 30 August 2026, none of the following has been announced — and if you see a confident answer to any of them, you are reading someone's guess:

How to check a GTA VI claim yourself

The method I used building this page, in case you want to verify anything here or elsewhere:

  1. Start at the source. Rockstar's Newswire and the official GTA VI site carry anything genuinely official. Take-Two's investor communications carry the commercial facts — price, date, platform.
  2. Check the date on the claim, not the article. Aggregator sites republish old delay stories with fresh timestamps. A May 2026 article restating a November 2025 announcement is not news.
  3. Ask what kind of claim it is. "Rockstar confirmed" should be traceable to a Rockstar publication. "Reportedly" means a journalist heard something. "Leaked" means the 2022 breach or a datamine, and the game changed enormously afterwards.
  4. Be suspicious of precision without a source. Exact map sizes, exact vehicle counts and exact mission totals are the signature of invented content.

9. GTA VI vs GTA V

GTA V launched in 2013. The gap is the longest between mainline entries in the series, and the comparison is the single most common question people bring to this game.

GTA V (2013)GTA VI (2026)
SettingLos Santos and Blaine County, San AndreasVice City and the state of Leonida
Real-world basisSouthern CaliforniaFlorida
ProtagonistsThree — Michael, Franklin, TrevorTwo — Jason and Lucia
Female leadNone playableLucia, a series first
Protagonist relationshipThree separate lives that intersectA couple, central to the plot
Launch platformsPS3, Xbox 360PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Launch price$59.99$79.99
Online at launchGTA Online followed weeks laterNot announced
Frame rate at launch30fps30fps Reported

The structural difference worth noting is the protagonist design. GTA V's three-hander was built for switching between unrelated lives. A two-hander built around a relationship implies a tighter, more continuous story — and the Extended Look's in-vehicle, mid-action switching suggests the mechanic has been rebuilt around proximity rather than distance.

10. Trailer timeline

ReleaseWhenWhat it established
Trailer 1December 2023Vice City, Lucia, the Florida-inflected tone, a 2025 window
Trailer 26 May 2025Jason and Lucia as a pair, wider Leonida locations, supporting cast
An Extended Look27 August 2026~26 minutes of gameplay, captured in-game on PS5

All three dates are confirmed. Confirmed The Extended Look premiered on Netflix before a free release on Rockstar's own channels — an unusual distribution choice, and a reminder that "trailer 3" as a label is a community convention rather than Rockstar's own naming.

11. GTA Online

This section is short because the honest answer is short.

Confirmed: GTA VI ships as a single-player game on 19 November 2026. Take-Two's pre-order announcement described it as a single-player experience. Confirmed

Not announced: An online mode. No name, no date, no structure, no confirmation that one is in development. Not announced

Not ruled out either. Rockstar has not said there will never be one, and GTA Online has been central to Take-Two's revenue for a decade. Expecting one eventually is reasonable inference. Stating it as a fact, or giving it a date, is not. Speculation

GTA Online for GTA V remains live and is a separate product. Nothing has been announced about migrating accounts, purchases or characters into any future GTA VI online mode. Not announced

13. Frequently asked questions

When does GTA 6 release?

19 November 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital pre-load opens on 12 November 2026.

Is GTA 6 delayed?

Not from the current date. It was moved twice — from a 2025 window, then from 26 May 2026 — before Rockstar settled on 19 November 2026 in November 2025. That date still stands as of 30 August 2026, and Rockstar released 26 minutes of gameplay in August 2026 against it.

Will GTA 6 be on PC?

Rockstar has not announced a PC version. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both launched on consoles first and reached PC later, which makes a PC release plausible — but no platform, date or confirmation exists, and any specific PC date you see is invented.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

$79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Any purchase before 20 November 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+.

Who is Lucia?

Lucia Caminos is one of two playable protagonists and the first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game. Rockstar's material establishes that she has served time and that she is the more driven half of the pair.

Who is Jason?

Jason Duval is the other playable protagonist — an Army veteran who has fallen into drug running in the Leonida Keys. He is the more reactive of the two, pulled into events rather than driving them.

Is GTA 6 multiplayer?

GTA VI ships as a single-player game. Rockstar has not announced an online mode, a date for one, or any structure it might take. An eventual online component is a reasonable expectation given the series' history, but it is not announced.

How big is GTA 6?

Rockstar has not published a map size. The frequently quoted "1.7 times GTA V" figure comes from leaked material and community measurement, not from Rockstar. What is confirmed is the composition: a major city, an island chain, wetlands, a second coastal town, a rural industrial county and a mountainous national park.

Is GTA 6 set in Vice City?

Yes — Vice City is the principal city, within the wider fictional state of Leonida. Leonida is Rockstar's Florida, and the map extends well beyond the city into the Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.

Does GTA 6 use AI?

Not generative AI. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that generative AI has "zero part" in what Rockstar built for GTA VI, describing the worlds as handcrafted rather than procedurally generated. The game certainly uses traditional game AI — pathfinding, behaviour systems, traffic — which is a different technology entirely. I've covered the distinction in detail in does GTA VI use AI?

Can I play GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. GTA VI is a current-generation release only — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No last-generation version has been announced.

What is the Vintage Vice City Pack?

A pre-order bonus included with any purchase made before 20 November 2026. Rockstar has confirmed the pack exists and how to qualify for it; a full contents list has not been published in detail.

Will GTA 6 run at 60fps?

Not at launch. The Extended Look footage runs at 30fps and that is reported to be how the game ships, with higher-frame-rate options described as undecided rather than promised. This came via developer comments reported in the press rather than a formal Rockstar publication.

How long is GTA 6?

Rockstar has not published a campaign length or mission count. Any number you see is a guess.

Is the leaked GTA 6 map accurate?

Unknown, and treat it sceptically. The 2022 breach material predates years of development, and the game changed substantially afterwards. Fan maps built on it may be broadly directionally right and specifically wrong, which is the worst combination for planning anything.

This page is the factual base. Three companion pieces go deeper on the questions it can only answer briefly:

I'll update this page as Rockstar publishes more, and the status labels will move with the evidence — Speculation becomes Confirmed when there's a source, not when a rumour gets loud.
